The controversy centers around Schnapp's supposed liking of a video posted by Noa Tishby, an Israeli actress, writer, producer, and activist. The video, originating from an Israeli TV satire show, takes a critical stance on support for Palestinians within US college campuses. Tishby accompanied the post with a comment asserting that the video is a significant aspect of Jewish culture and provides solace.

The online backlash has manifested in calls for a boycott of Stranger Things, with some individuals suggesting the cancellation of Netflix subscriptions in response to Schnapp's alleged involvement with the contentious video.
